Current Concerns
NYS allows continued construction on public projects that will meet the health and safety needs of the populace during this emergency.. The Town of Crown Point has two projects. One project involves the establishment of redundancy for water. Currently, the Town has a water supply located at the fish hatchery which is more than adequate for Crown Point’s needs but there is not at present secondary supply if for some reason the fish hatchery well became inoperable. Previously, the Pearl Street well had been the secondary source but due to quality concerns this well was disconnected from the fish hatchery supply. The Town had explored other sites in which to analyze whether there was a feasibility to drill a well. But before that occurred this administration advocated that first an analysis of the Pearl Street well be conducted.
With the expertise of DEC, it was projected that any problems with the water were induced by human error. As a result, investigations proved that evidences of oil residues in the water were as a result of inferior construction. A series of investigative tests have been conducted whereby it has been determined that the Pearl Street well water is of a quality that meets NYS standards. When this segment of the project is finalized monies will be available for new water meters for every user. This will create a degree of fairness.
Our second construction project involves waste water. Our current system has been extended over its life expendancy and is causing numerous expensive repairs. The Town’s engineering firm , AES Northeast, will have recommendations soon as how to proceed and will determine what type of waste water system will be utilized.
The Town of Crown Point will be able to expand the hamlet once a new waste water system and improved water system is complete.
